Boca Grande Pass is known as The Tarpon Capital of the World! Every year tens of thousands of tarpon fill the pass from May to July. Considered by many to be the ultimate sport fish to catch, these fish range from 100 to 200Lbs with the State record being 240Lbs. Last season Captain Ken Mercer landed a tarpon that was over 7 feet long and weighed in just 20lbs from the record. The Silver King requires about 45 minutes to get reeled in and land. With spectacular runs that burn up the drag and require the captain to chase the fish with the boat as you battle from the fighting chair on the bow. These hard charges are typically finished with fish leaping up to 6 feet in the air! Over 50% of the fish hooked end up breaking the line or shaking it free. This is the Super Bowl of fishing and should be on every anglers bucket list. Nauti Knots has been one of the most successful charters in the pass for several years in a row. Many charter Captains won't even offer trips into the pass. Your success requires a highly skilled and experienced Captain to land these giants. Captain Ken is well known as one of the best guides in the area to get it done.

The best month for Tarpon is May. Tarpon trips begin in late April and run until late July.
There are several reasons Boca Grande Pass is well known as the Tarpon Capital of the World. The #1 reason they are here in such great numbers during the months of May and June are the Hill Tides. The action is steady every day during these months as crabs flush out from the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor to thousands of hungry migratory tarpon. The hill tides are the strongest tides by far and crabs literally blanket the entire pass as they get flushed out to sea. The tarpon go into a frenzy, smashing crabs on the surface in an amazing display of nature. If you can fish during these specific dates, your chances of hooking into a silver king are much higher.
